What is Your Feminine Legacy?

by Tabby Biddle

When I turned 50 a few years ago, I started to ask myself…What is my feminine legacy? What am I here to create and leave for future generations?

I admit that the idea of legacy can seem overwhelming and imposter syndrome can creep in and say things like, “Who am I to have a legacy?” That’s only for famous people like Taylor Swift and Beyoncé.

It can also feel morbid. I’m still young! Why should I be thinking about my legacy?

And to some, it may feel too ego-ic or patriarchal. I’ve heard this before.

But the legacy I’m talking about is not about ego, getting brainwashed by the patriarchy, or preparing for death. It’s about valuing the significance of your life and becoming aware of the ripple effect your voice, your actions, your passion and your presence has on both current and future generations.

Yes, living your legacy can shape the future you hope to create to benefit generations to come. But it also matters now – both for you and the young women and girls in your life.

As a woman of this world, by living your legacy, you are honoring your passion and your joy, which is both a life that you deserve and a life that other young women need to see is possible for them, too.

In my experience, feminine legacy is about being in touch with your heart and soul and having so much love for someone or something—an idea, a vision, a project, righting a wrong, bringing justice—that all you want to do is focus on it, nurture it, and help it grow.

And oftentimes, it’s not even a choice. Your soul must.

If you hear that phrase ‘feminine legacy’ and aren’t sure where to start, here are some questions to get you started thinking about it:
